    Pour moi il s'agit d'une de ces pépites que le cinéma sait nous offrir.
    Le réalisateur et les décors très travaillés nous plongent dans un univers particulier, atypique mais subjuguant.
    Il faut noter la prestation de Ron Perlman, qui bien que n'ayant pas du avoir de mal à apprendre son texte, nous communique énormément d'émotion grâce à "sa gueule".

    Je vois des critiques sévères sur le transfert en HD: des noirs inacceptables parce que"trop noirs". En effet ce sont des noirs profonds, caractéristiques des blu-ray en général. Dans le cas présent, il contribuent parfaitement à l'ambiance du film. Le blu-ray est très supérieur au DVD et je ne regrette absolument pas mon achat, bien au contraire.

    La cité des enfants perdus et un film culte pour beaucoup de ceux qui l'ont découvert dans les années 90. Une ambiance hors du temps, des acteurs formidable... Bref, un film à voir et à revoir!

    Le problème que j'ai avec ce film, c'est que je n'accroche pas à l'histoire. Pour le reste, Jeunet nous en met plein la vue, comme d'habitude. Son univers est visuellement époustouflant et le casting est de choix. À coup sûr, un chef d'oeuvre pour certains.

    Un film que j'adore, plein de poésie et un précurseur des effets spéciaux à la Française.
    Malheureusement, la copie est a revoir. Coté définition, c'est parfait, rien à redire. Le film a été nettoyé également. Mais les effets spéciaux ont très mal vieillis (ils pixelisent un max sur certains plans, absence de dégradé de couleur sur le parcours de la brume verte...), les aplats chromatiques sur les arrières plans, surtout ciel, ne sont pas réguliers et bougent comme si il y avait un défaut de compression, mais le plus gros problème reste les noirs complètements bouchés. Il n'y a pas de niveau de gris, aucuns détails dans les noirs... Voulu ?
    Coté son, la piste "VF" 5.1 et surtout centré sur l'avant. Mon LaserDisc était plus expressif sur les Surround.
    Bref, très déçu par cette édition malheureusement raté.

    This is visually sumptuous. No doubt it's beautiful. This is a Jules Verne novel brought to life, not literally, but it has a very Verne sensibility. This has stylistic carry overs from Delicatessen. Ron Perlman is One, he is the adopted brother of Denree, a boy who is nothing but trouble. When he is kidnapped by Krank the problems begin. The characters that populate the rig where the movie takes place and much of the world beyond are monsters. Not in the literal sense, but monstrous in some way shape or form. The plot is... difficult to follow, but the beauty of the cinematography and the visual spectacle mean this is forgiveable. This has the 2001: A Space Odyssey sensibility. Many will be critical of the overarching technological pretence. Ignore that. Sometimes the beauty of the scenery you pass through is better than the destination. That's the case here.

    The City Of Lost Children is a very Artistic adventure into the human mind and beyond. It takes place in a dark, futuristic city along the French seaside where the world has fallen into a desolate totalitarian system of governance where BIG BROTHER is ever present. The streets are full of orphaned children who do whatever they need to do to survive and adults who will also do whatever they have to survive....including abducting little children and selling them. What's the film about? well that I believe will be up to each viewer. The run-down however is based around this....A gusty little girl and a strongman join hearts and hands to save a small boy's dreams from a mad scientists master plan who has a secret lair out in the middle of the ocean on an old oil rig. Take Terry Gilliam and make him a French Director who drinks Absinthe all day and drops acid and you will end up with "The City Of Lost Children". Beautiful sets, colors, stunning visualizations, and direction that will blow your mind and leave you a bit perplexed.

    For English Speaking Viewers, the Film is in FRENCH Language, however it is Dubbed in English so you can can simply select that in the "Audio" tracks Settings of the Blu Ray disc and enjoy the film in English Language. It also has English Subtitles that you can turn off in the subtitle settings. The sound for the Blu Ray edition has been re-mastered in 2.0 Channel DTS-HD, and the film has been upgraded to 1080p High Definition for and optimal and enhance viewing experience. The Blu Ray Edition I purchased is in Region "A" and plays on all North American Blu Ray & DVD Players. *Please pay attention to the information of the copy you are looking at to make sure it is in the player region for your country before purchasing.

    Directed by Jeune-Pierre Jeunet, now famous thanks to the stunning Amélie, and the similarly bizarre Delicatessen, this film really is unique. The visuals, all dark lighting and atmospheric rain, are brilliant, as is the somewhat nightmarish atmosphere that the filmmaker manages to set up. The opening in particular, the nightmare of one of the children stolen by the insane Doctor Krank, is truly unsettling, and while the rest of the film is not actually scary, it does keep the same slight hallucinatory edge.
    It's an excellent film, packed with inventive images. It's just a shame then that it is ruined by poor dubbing. Mostly the voice acting is good. The voices were well picked to match the characters. However, the dubbing of one character, Miette, is atrocious. It really is bad. If she were only a minor character it would be acceptable, but she's probably the most important character in the film, and the amateur voice given her is so annoyingly poor that it really does distract from the enjoyment of the rest of the film.
    Rent the film, watch it once just to enjoy the visual brilliance of this French masterpiece, but don't buy it. You won't be able to sit through that voice more than once, and would do better spending your time only petitioning Amazon to make the subtitled French version available.
