    Although I can understand why other reviewers did not like this film I have to confess that I found it breathtaking. The German director, the ever controversial Uwe Boll, has taken the subject of what physically happened to the Jews at Auschwitz and graphically depicts their suffering, from the moment they arrive at the camp to the grim finality of death. To me his comments that movie makers of the past have tended to sanitise the Holocaust, by focusing on some heroic individual, as in Schindler's List or the Pianist, are spot on. Certainly no one can accuse Boll of such tactics. To my mind he is brave and moralistic to tackle the subject in such a way, as he is bound to provoke extreme reaction. However, given the stunning lack of German education on the subject, if we are to take the bizarre views of the interviewed teenagers at the start and end of the film as belonging to the German population as a whole, this approach is long overdue. The key to me is that he shows the German guards talking about their holiday plans and domestic issues just after they had killed a handful of babies - thus showing how they approached their task - like they were working in a mundane factory or office job, despite their dealing in mass murder. It is this 'normality' (in the film world at least) that has tended to be ignored and by depicting it the director lends the drama an atmosphere of evil. Ultimately we do live in a world where people try to deny the existence of the Holocaust, so in my opinion Mr Boll has achieved the worthwhile aim of protecting their legacy.

    Uwe Boll has created a masterpiece that depicts the true horror of Hitler's "final solution."

    This is not a story that takes place in a concentration camp. It is about the workings of Auschwitz, and how terrifyingly common people took place in atrocious activities.

    The film also includes videos of present day, high school aged, German students, most of whom know very little about Auschwitz.

    I highly recommend this film for everyone over 16 years of age.

    This isn’t much of a movie there’s a gas chamber scene and that’s it and it wasn’t all that accurate. They used to fill the gas chamber not just a few people And interviewing kids in German with no English subtitles so I have no idea what they’re talking about.

    What an absolutely awesome piece of filmwork this is. Part 'movie' in the broadest sense of the word and part documentary it covers the small space of truely horrific time that elasped between the arrival of Jews and other 'undesirables' at Auschwitz, their deaths, plundering and finally their destruction into ashes and smoke.

    The movie scenes are brilliantly interupted by interviews with German teenagers which aim to establish what they know about the Holocaust, the numbers, the motives, the actuality of it all. OK, one must assume that the most thought provoking / entertaining interviws have been chosen but it is decently balanced, some who know and understand the full story of the Holocaust and the consequences of the actions of their countrymen and some who know very little.

    And surely this is the key point, we must never forget and we must always learn so these events can never take place again. This film opens up the 'questions' of the Holocaust for an entirely new generation.

    Well done, all my children will watch this, so they can learn and understand.
