    Pour une fois que le passage dvd-blue ray donne de superbes résultats, il ne faut pas se priver.
    Pour tous les Trekkistes comme moi (j'ai connu la 1ére série à la TV en rediffusion) c'est une redécouverte de TNG. L'âme de Roddenberry,rien à voir avec les nouveaux films........

    Star Trek TNG est et restera une excellente serie.
    En ce qui concerne cette édition dvd, je ne suis pas vraiment fan de la présentation "fourreau" en carton abritant des simples boitiers slim, c'est pour ça que je ne met pas 5 etoiles, sinon c'est du tout bon

    Je ne suis pas déçu. Le Blu-ray permet de passer de la version original a la version remastérisé.

    Le capitaine Picard et ses officiers dans de nouvelles aventures. Toujours réjouissant et efficace, la quatrième saison est fidèle aux trois premières.

    Il n'y a donc pas de surprises majeures, ce coffret est indispensable aux amateurs de la série. L'esprit Star Trek est là, les intrigues sont en général bien ficelées. (bien entendu, certains épisodes sortent du lot, d'autres sont médiocres, mais la globalité reste intéressante)

    Star Trek: The Next Generation entered its fourth season riding the crest of a wave. Despite the extremely difficult circumstances it had been written and filmed under, the third season had been given a near-unanimously positive critical reception and the Best of Both Worlds cliffhanger had become a major TV event of the year. The production team thus started the fourth season with confidence and even a bit of swagger to their step and this translated into assured and confident episodes hitting the air.

    One of the most noticeable changes in the fourth season is the great embracing of continuity. The fourth season episodes bring back Data's evil brother Lore and address the ongoing Klingon story arc begun in Sins of the Father in the third season. Worf becomes a father, Wesley Crusher departs for the Academy and LaForge comes face-to-face with the real woman about who he's constructed a holodeck fantasy. Lt. Barclay, Vash and Q return, and the events of an episode that no-one can remember, Yesterday's Enterprise, have unexpected major consequences as the season draws to a conclusion. Major new forces also appear, most notably the race known as the Cardassians who will go on to have a massive impact on the Trek universe in future seasons and in the Deep Space Nine spin-off show. The fourth season feels like more part of an interconnected whole rather than 26 random stories thrown together and this works very well.

    This isn't to say that every episode is a home run. The Best of Both Worlds, Part II actually resolves the Borg threat in a manner that makes sense but the story is a little too big for the episode and doesn't quite pay off the promises of the Season 3 finale. Suddenly Human has Picard disobeying orders from Starfleet with no consequence, which is odd. Remember Me is terrible (disappointing for a rare Dr. Crusher-centric episode). Devil's Due is played for laughs and doesn't work. Clues is an inferior remake of a much better Red Dwarf episode. Galaxy's Child sets up a great scene where LaForge is called out for some inappropriate behaviour towards a woman but he - rather childishly - blames her for it and gets away with it. Data's behaviour in In Theory is rather implausible.

    But balanced against that we have the Klingon/Worf arc in Reunion and Redemption (and to a lesser extent in Family, Data's Day and The Mind's Eye) which is excellent throughout. There's Family's treatment of family life and Picard's backstory, which is well-acted by all involved. First Contact's brave experiment of showing the whole episode from the aliens' POV works extremely well. Brothers opens with a great hijacking storyline and ends with a striking confrontation between Brent Spiner, Brent Spiner and Brent Spiner which the actor pulls off with skill. Qpid has some great laughs (though not much else). Final Mission has some of the most spectacular location shooting the series ever did, and manages to (briefly) make the audience regret that Wesley is leaving. The Wounded expands on O'Brien's character a lot and paves the way for the entirety of Deep Space Nine. The Drumhead is an awesome episode about people using the fear of terrorism and sabotage to justify the draconian crushing of human rights and free speech (something even more relevant today than when the episode aired). The Mind's Eye is a great riff on The Manchurian Candidate.

    So whilst the fourth season doesn't quite hit the heights of the third (nothing here challenges Yesterday's Enterprise or The Best of Both Worlds in quality) it's still a highly entertaining collection of 26 episodes, with even the weakest episodes usually having scenes to recommend them. The regular cast are on top form and bolstered by some excellent guest stars (special mention must be made of Jean Simmons in The Drumhead and a returning Andreas Katsulas in Future Imperfect). There's a definite improvement in the quality of the effects for this season as well.

    For this HD re-release of the season, every episode has been re-assembled from scratch from the original film stock, with every visual effect in the season recreated from the source materials (or, when they were unavailable, new CGI). As with the previous seasons, this has the happy side-effect of eliminating all greenscreen artifacts and 'halos' around models and superimposed characters, and allows for much greater detail in effects shots to become visible. Some effects that were originally quite ropey - such as Deanne Troi's dream-trip in Night Terrors - now look utterly fantastic and challenge modern effects work. The replacement of the generic original planets with more detailed CGI versions also continues and hugely improves the look of the show (Pelia Zel II in The Host looks particularly impressive). In a few cases effects that people have been moaning about for years - like the distinctly underwhelming explosion of the Borg cube in Best of Both Worlds Part II - have been redone entirely to look a lot better. The only major problem in the season is the terrible CGI for the space creature in Galaxy's Child, which looks amateurish and out of keeping with the rest of the series. With the rest of the effects looking absolutely stunning, there is no excuse for this.

    The fourth season of Star Trek: The Next Generation (****½) is not the show at its best, but it is certainly highly entertaining and, with episodes like The Drumhead, thought-provoking. It is available now in the UK and USA.

    放送されていたのは1987年から７年間でしたが、今から２０年以上前の作品と思えないＣＧの出来（星雲他宇宙の様子が美しい）や、
    暴力や劇的な展開が無くても十分に引き込まれるストーリーは現代でも色あせていません。

    それぞれの登場人物は、個性的ですが皆誠実で、とても魅力的に描かれています。

    当時、冷戦が終わったという世相を反映してでしょうか、戦闘シーンは殆ど無く
    会話と理性によって如何に他者（他種族）と関わり高め合うか、というのが作品の根本をなす内容となっています。

    一種、人類の理想を描いたこの作品。
    現代の中韓関係やイスラムとキリスト教社会のかかわりなど、制作された当時に未来を予測していたのではなかろうかと
    思わせるだけ深く推察されたストーリーに貴方もきっと魅了されるはず。

    往年のファンはもちろん、若い方に見せても決して色あせない傑作シリーズがこの価格で見られるのです。

    The DVDs themselves are of good quality; I've rented many seasons' worth and reminded myself which stories throughout the run were good and which were not...

    $50 per season is on par and is a good price. (So what's coming soon that's compelling people to buy these current sets?)

    Wish I could afford it; thanks to the prices of necessities gone up so much (food, shelter, and distilled petroleum products being slightly more important than Captain Picard standing around as if he hasn't spent a penny in decades...), $50 is still an effective $100 out of my pocket in the end.

    Don't get me wrong, the entire series IS fun... but season 4 sees the loss of the inimitable Ron Jones; who was sacked because the production team wanted to alter the series' format to more soapy drama, less action/adventure and much less sci-fi concepts being used. (big mistakes, IMHO)

    best of Both Worlds II: The end cure-all is cheezy, but it works.

    Family: The first of 4 stories to have the same plot: Character survives a nasty situation and has to feeeeeeeeeel the repercussions. It got trite quickly. This one makes sense; it's Picard visiting home and has to deal with the Borg assaulting him. Yes Virginia, men can be raped too.

    Brothers: Data has a homing device and reprograms the ship to go to a strange planet. Of course, this is the ONE TIME that Crusher can't heal a sick patient so the ship has to get to Starbase 269 or whereever... Of course, they get there and we meet Data's creator. Of course, Lore picked up the signal too... Kudos to Brent Spiner for handling THREE roles with aplomb. In the right mood, this one is highly enjoyable, but the daft sick-kid diversion is nothing more than a diversion and is a bit of a copout.

    Suddenly Human: The worst of the bunch. A kid raised by a race of aliens (that look like wolves) is being sent back to his biological human parents, not realizing that years of existing upbringing cannot be undone... Just think if Picard was a Borg for 17 years and then undone... Holy Hugh... garbage, this story is.

    Remember Me: It's Crusher's turn to lose her world only to get it all back at the end, being saved by the Traveller. It's an interesting take on the show's science (living in a warp bubble), but it all feels empty once she's saved; little better than a dream sequence routine.

    Legacy (#80): WOW. Made solely as homage to passing TOS' number of episodes (79), this one is a terrific action-packed piece. Tasha's sister and association only sweetens the pot... there's little to dislike here, except an obvious re-use of sets from Best of Both Worlds - a story that is hardly forgettable.

    Reunion: Worf subplot continues...

    Future Imperfect: Not a bad story; Minuete returns unexpectedly (which was way-cool), but it's revealed that the latest candy bar winner of the year is why it was made at all.

    Final Mission: Wesley's swansong is a bit dull. A shame; Wesley matured in season 3, and Wil Wheaton deserved better (great actor, not a good character written for him, though. :( )

    The Loss: It has a ring of realism to it, but unless you enjoy Troi moaning and whining all the time, there's little of interest here. Except for a new science concept to be re-used next season.

    Data's Day: A weird one, ending with a slap in Picard's face thanks to a Romulan spy...

    The Wounded: A vehicle for O'brien and a new race known as the Cardassians. (uh-oh: new species invented. They're struggling for new ideas and parallels to Earth societies already...)

    Devil's Due: Another 70s-revival story dug from the grave, it's fun but it's obvious the story was meant for Kirk. (why not have Riker be the object of Ardara's interest instead of Picard?! Just like how every other woman of the week was for Riker during seasons 1 and 2...)

    Clues: Namby pamby by the end; but the ideas are nice enough.

    First Contact: Don't confuse this with the fan-centric movie from 1996; this one is rich, deep, and brilliant in its use of showing one's self to new cultures. Riker isthe perfect character to use as the injured party - and there's a woman of the week for him too! :D

    Galaxy's Child: AWESOME follow-up made in Booby Trap. Pity Dr Brahams didn't return. She and Geordi (as characters and as the actors playing them) have an obvious chemistry together and it's wonderfully played out.

    Night Terrors: Empty horror-wannabe.

    Identity Crisis: I don't recall the plot, so it can't be very memorable...

    The Nth Degree: Barclay returns; and seems a dream-come-true for anyone like Barclay: To become normal and then better. Lovely stuff.

    QPid: I love this one; Q chides Picard over obvious affection for Vash (introduced in Captain's Holiday). Q and Vash make the perfect couple and the perfect foils for Picard to boot. And Worf hates being a merry man! ROFL

    The Drumhead: Preachy beyond belief, yet noble in its cause regarding keeping an open mind and not drawing quick conclusions.

    Half a Life: Controversial, but not preachy, this story regarding a set "death date" is intelligently done on the whole.

    The Host: Another species is introduced, the Trills. Forgettable and another species being introduced means they're clutching at more straws for future ideas (few of which get used until DS9...)

    The Mind's Eye: AWESOME, if not predictable, tale of Geordi being kidnapped and brainwashed by the Romulans.

    Redemption: Part 1 is actually very good, continuing the Worf subplot and revealing somebody we'd never expect: Tasha Yar!

    All in all, season 4 ends the best that TNG had to offer, though later seasons still had some merit...

    Zur Serie selbst muss man nicht viel schreiben: Die ist super und Staffel 4 hält das Niveau hoch!

    6 BluRay Discs mit allen Folgen der 4. Staffel + HD exklusives Bonusmaterial!

    Zum Inhalt der Box sind wieder Episodenguide, Pin-Code und Anstecknadel (wieder in einer kleinen Schatulle) zu erwähnen! ALLES AUS METALL - nicht wie andere Käufer behaupten, er sei aus Plastik. Das stimmt nämlich nicht. Alle PINS waren bisher aus Metall. Als weiteres Extra ist ein Downloadcode für ein Video-Special enthalten! Alles bestens und wie bei Season 2&3 top gelöst, sodass keine Schäden entstehen können!

    Das HD-Bild ist diesmal wieder ein Traum - wurde es ja auch wieder hauseigen von CBS transferiert - und lässt teilweise echt die Kinnlade herunter fallen. Kaum "flimmern" oder ähnlich unsauberes Bild! Also nicht wie bei der 2. Staffel, wo die Qualität doch sehr schwankte. Hier überwiegend gestochen scharf und mit einem super Kontrast ausgestattet. So konnte TNG noch nie genossen werden! Bildverhältnis beträgt abermals 4:3

    Der Ton ist kristallklar, wenn auch wieder in Mono. Tonhöhenprobleme oder Asynchronitäten gibt es wie bei allen Boxen bisher nicht - weiter so!
    Zusammengefasst eine fast perfekte HD Ausgabe mit jeder Menge Extras und auf jeden Fall eine Kaufempfehlung!

    We can say that Season 4 of STTNG is not necessarily the best of the seven season run, but that’s not to say it’s not good: it truly is, and contains a number of very interesting and enjoyable episodes (often drawing on previous story arcs developed from the first three seasons), but we are let unexpectedly down after the nail-biting end of Season Three’s Borg episode. Again, these things are to be taken in context: most of the Season Four episodes are extremely well done, and certainly better than many of the episodes we see in other shows, but there is almost a sense that the show needed to stand back and catch its breath after what it had gone through in seasons one through three. Much of Season Four focuses on family relationships, and relationships of all types, and this gives the show a bit of a different feel than seasons one through three.

    What must be stressed, as I have done in previous reviews, is the superb results of the remastering process that both the original series and the Next Generation series underwent. Nothing short of stupendous, these remasterings and digital enhancements have simply made these shows standouts in terms of their visual and audio quality. Resolution is so high as to beggar belief. Colors dance on the screen. There is a detail and “presence” that was never present before. We honestly watch these shows and find it difficult to accept that they were filmed more than half a century ago (STTOS) and more than a quarter of a century ago (STTNG). In most cases, it appears as if the shows were actually originally filmed in high resolution format, which, in a sense, they were, since they were recorded on 35mm film using camera equipment that buried an immense amount of information within each frame and permitted their extraction today. This was a laborious and expensive proposition, and it took a number of years to achieve it (the many special features of the show will explain and depict this in a fascinating way), but it was worth it in every way, and now that prices on the series have started coming down to more reasonable levels after the original costs were recouped, it is a no-brainer for any fan of the show. It has been repeatedly said, and by myself as well, but you’ll watch these episodes as though you have never seen them before, and that goes even for those of us who have memorized so much of the episodes from repeated re-watchings over the years.

    Will the show once again be rescanned to meet the most recent 4K resolution technology that is now being released? In my mind, it doesn’t matter (even though the safe bet is, yes, it will, at some point). The fact is that the quality is now so high and the color and resolution so amazing that there is no point in sitting around waiting for that time. This current release is not simply a re-release of the same old quality shows on a new delivery format, like so many of the releases have been over the years. This is a new and entirely different release that breaks through the previous releases and allows the episodes to shine in ways never before possible. It’s an experience to enjoy regardless of how well you may or may not know the episodes. This release shows just how unique STTOS and STTNG were, and allows us to appreciate and enjoy them in ways as never before. Five stars.
